We’ve got some high achievers on our team and this week we are celebrating a very special one.

Erica Gilrein, PE, CFM has been with Sanderson Stewart for over five years. In that time, she has made great contributions to our Land Development Division as a project engineer. Most recently, Erica passed the Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM®) exam, adding CFM to her credentials. This certification demonstrates Erica’s expertise in the wise use of floodplains to minimize flood risks, reduce losses from floods, protect public health, and improve the quality of life in communities. Way to go, Erica!

Erica loves what she does and wishes people knew that being an engineer isn’t all about math nor does it require nerd-type skills.

“I think that those associations keep a lot of great talent from entering the field, and almost made me decide not to pursue civil engineering,” Erica says. “In reality, there’s a huge variety of things you can do with a civil engineering degree and the field requires all types!”

Erica holds degrees from University of Wyoming and Arizona State University. She is finishing the 16th and last book in the Eldering series and has hundreds of miles under her belt after completing a bike tour from Duluth, MN to Syracuse, NY via Canada.

Erica attributes much of her success on the job to having a great mentor.

“I was a bit nervous about asking for help when I started out at Sanderson Stewart, but quickly got over that. I have asked my manager, Bryan Alexander, a million questions and will probably have a billion more in the future. I am very grateful for his guidance!”
