Our firm and our clients recognize that effective and intentional community engagement leads to better community design. Sanderson Stewart’s Diane Tolhurst, armed with her newly earned certificate in Public Participation from IAP2 (the international association for public participation), is dedicated to fostering authentic and inclusive community engagement within the communities our clients serve. Her efforts ensure that all voices and perspectives are heard and included in the decision-making and design process.
From open houses and design charrettes to presentations and interactive websites, public engagement can take many forms. Two recent efforts we have undertaken on behalf of clients were an open house for a city-wide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and a stakeholders meeting for a sizeable road reconstruction project.
