5th Avenue Corridor

FROM RAILS TO A RANGE OF MULTIMODAL POSSIBILITIES

Sanderson Stewart’s community design experts recently completed a feasibility study for the conversion of an existing rail corridor into multi-modal corridor in Downtown Billings. The 5th Avenue Corridor connects the MetraPark and fairgrounds through the East Billings Urban Renewal District (EBURD) to the heart of downtown Billings. The possibility of creating a new, innovative, and people-centered corridor through this evolving area of Montana’s largest city is an exciting and community-changing opportunity for the City of Billings!

The goals of the project included providing a comprehensive analysis of the opportunities to develop transportation connections to, from and within the corridor for multi-modal uses, identifying connective opportunities to the existing transportation system, incorporating, elements from adopted plans and studies, providing broad opportunities for community involvement, developing a vision for the corridor that incorporates transportation elements and considers adjacent land uses, and finally developing implementation priorities, including phasing and funding opportunities.

Sanderson Stewart is leading the design of the first phase of the project beginning in 2022.
