A SAFER, ENDURING SOLUTION
Sanderson Stewart was the lead consultant on this federally-aided project to design the reconstruction of a 0.6-mile long urban collector on the west side of Laurel, Montana. Eighth Avenue is a designated truck route that runs through a primarily residential neighborhood. Adjacent properties include a church, several businesses, numerous residential properties, and an elementary school creating significant pedestrian and bus activity. Public involvement efforts included meeting individually with property owners, a neighborhood public meeting, and presentations to the City Council.
The project included complete reconstruction of a two-lane urban street with on-street parking and a new storm drainage collection system, including detention facilities, as well as sidewalk, curb and gutter, and landscaping. It also included lighting and numerous amenities such as bulb-outs for children and other pedestrians.
