URBAN RENEWAL IN THE HEART OF BOZEMAN
Sanderson Stewart has provided significant design services for the revitalization of Aspen Street in Bozeman, Montana. Aspen Street connects to 7th Avenue (through the heart of Bozeman) and Westlake Park, both part of the Midtown Urban Renewal District. The project included reconstruction of the local street to provide a unique gathering space on street for concerts and other outdoor events.
The design process began with a concept plan that was developed through a design charrette with adjacent property owners, City staff, and Midtown Urban Renewal District Board Members. Design features include a high level of landscaping, decorative permeable pavers and string lights. The street design was integrated into the redevelopment of an adjacent multi-use building (designed by A&E Design) to compliment pedestrian facilities and plazas on-site.
This project has included:
- Redevelopment of an urban street from a 1970s strip retail building to multi-use buildings
- Streetscape design including: pedestrian lighting, festival string lights, custom stone seatwalls, and planting beds with native plants
- Stormwater collection beneath the street with decorative pavers allowing filtration to cell reservoirs that slow the release of water into the stormwater system
- Design, bidding, and construction administration services for street and utility improvements on Aspen Street and 5th Avenue
