ON TIME AND UNDER BUDGET

Civil Engineer School Infrastructure Desgin Ben Steele Middle School

New middle school in Billings, Montana named in honor of World War II hero and local artist, Ben Steele.

Ben Steele Middle School is a brand new, 40 acre school facility in the rapidly developing west end of Billings. The grounds include a football field and track, two soccer fields, softball field, baseball field, and basketball courts. Sanderson Stewart partnered with A&E Architects and Integrus Architecture to create a highly successful multi-disciplinary collaboration, which added valuable insight in the schematic and design development stages of the project. The integrated design team was able to draw upon its experience with Medicine Crow Middle School to provide a quick and successful design, allowing the contractor to get an early start, mitigating the harsh winter slowdown, and keeping the whole project on time and under budget.

A COMMUNITY ASSET

Sanderson Stewart was responsible for producing the site grading and drainage design, water and sewer analysis, site utility plans, and landscape and irrigation designs. Once plans were complete, Sanderson Stewart also assisted with the bid phase as well as construction administration. The City of Billings accommodated the influx of traffic to the facility by increasing the width of Grand Avenue and adding sidewalks and crossing signals for the school’s estimated 700 students (a project led by Sanderson Stewart’s Community Transportation Studio).
