CRITICAL INTERSTATE IMPROVEMENTS THROUGH MONTANA’S BIGGEST CITY
Sanderson Stewart is a subconsultant for the Comprehensive Roadway Design of this interstate project. The project includes replacing and widening the existing bridges over the Yellowstone River and over an existing railroad facility. The project will reconstruct/rehabilitate approximately 2.3 miles of the interstate, widen from two-lanes to three-lanes in each direction, and improve on and off-ramps.
Sanderson Stewart is responsible for survey control, topographic pick-up survey, cadastral survey and a Section Corner and R/W Certificate of Survey, as well as road design, R/W design, traffic data collection and projections, utility coordination, and development of the road design-related PS&E and reporting. Key challenges that have or will be overcome include: minimizing construction cost; minimizing R/W impacts; treating and conveying substantial stormwater; maximizing rehabilitation; utilization and merging of various forms of land and aerial survey including bridge survey, bathymetric survey, LIDAR data, photogrammetric survey, terrestrial scan data and conventional GPS and total station data; construction sequencing to minimize disruption to traffic (including significant heavy vehicles), and; complete final screening of options and select the preferred alternative for the roadway.
