BILLINGS, MONTANA’S SHOPPING HUB
Because of its geographic location and size, Billings, Montana remains a regional shopping hub for consumers in all corners of the state, including Wyoming, North and South Dakota. The sheer size of the state of Montana, paired with relatively low population density means that many of the city’s shoppers drive from smaller, rural communities for their shopping trips. Located just off of Interstate 90 near a multitude of hotels and restaurants on Billings’ west end, The Marketplace was built to easily serve the influx of weekend shoppers and traffic.
THE FIRST OF ITS KIND
Sanderson Stewart played an integral role in the development of the region’s first 200-acre power retail center with high generator tenants, including: Wal-Mart, Toys-R-Us, Lowes, Best Buy, Home Depot, PetSmart, World Market, Applebee’s, Bed Bath and Beyond, Michael’s, three drive-in banks, several restaurants, and other national retail chains.
Sanderson Stewart was responsible for the land use and transportation master planning, subdivision platting, annexation, and zoning, all site civil engineering design, corporate site plan adaptation, construction engineering, and contract administration. Work included over $6 million worth of arterial street improvements to support this development. It remains one of Billings’ biggest retail attractions and has become the cornerstone commercial development for the west end.
